Self-regulation begins at home, well before it’s labeled executive function in the classroom. When most people hear “executive function,” they think of planners, checklists, and something kids learn for school, often from a "coach." This is simplistic and inaccurate. Why? At its heart, executive function is simply self-regulation; the ability to manage impulses, emotions, routines, and daily demands.
PAUSE People get it: self-regulation begins at home with parents and guardians—early and often.
